As a Human Resources Benefits Specialist, you will responsible for Human Resources, Payroll and Benefit related task processing along with answering the Company’s 800 Human Resources call center questions assisting managers and employees.  The HR Benefits Specialist  should have a broad subject matter expertise in the areas of human resources with a concentration in benefits - health & welfare benefits, 401k and cash balance/pension, various leave administration (state specific, FMLA, STD, Military, etc).  The HRSC Specialist will also support the daily activities of the Human Resources Service Center (HRSC) and benefit staff.

Responsibilities

  • Research issues, interpret legislation, company policies, procedures, plan documents and related documentation and apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills in order to ensure the best solution is found for each situation. Utilize knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws, as well as, Federal Motor Carrier Regulations (FMSCA), Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment (USERRA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Cafeteria Plans, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), QMCSO’s, and QDROs’.
  • Communicate and liaise with appropriate employees, managers, other departments, and third parties while researching and resolving employee HR, benefit, leave, and pension issues.  Draft legally sound communications as needed.
  • Assist with and support the annual Open Enrollment
  • Act as HR subject matter expert for multiple Company benefit plans including short term and long-term disability and the various leave regulations. Coordinate with payroll and vendors as needed.  Protect the Company by always maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
  • Validate and reconcile benefit related paperwork and process transactions along with performing audits and communications as necessary. Initiate billing of benefits, or deduction adjustments as necessary.
  • Responsible for daily phone coverage and utilize the HRSC case management system and other tools to actively manage caseload in accordance with team production goals and established quality standards.
  • Run various interfaces, queries and reports as needed for vendors, payroll to transfer data to vendors or share information with management. Assist in testing of upgrades to PeopleSoft, vendor interfaces, etc., as needed.
  • Perform special projects as necessary, conducting applicable research and organizing information.

 

This position requires shift work to cover the hours from 8 am to 7 pm EST (M-F)

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Human Resources; knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws, Federal Motor Carrier regulations, HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, Cafeteria Plans, USERRA, FMLA and ADA, as well as experience handling benefits, retirement plans and leaves of absence is preferred. Understands basic office protocol and demonstrates clear communication skills
  • Has prior experience with Human Resources/Payroll systems. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products like Outlook, Word and Excel. Understands basic office protocol and demonstrates strong communication skills. HRIS/ PeopleSoft experience a plus.
